The last year has seen a big change in the Welsh Department at the school.  New schemes of work have been introduced and have been designed to interest and engage, and the enthusiasm of the staff has begun to rub off on the pupils! The curriculum focuses on student use of Communication, Reading and Writing skills.

Lessons are made up of a variety of activities, games and reading, writing and oral tasks.  This academic year pupils study Welsh GCSE from year 9.

Outside of the classroom the Welsh department offers many extra curricular activities such as an annual weekend trip to the Urdd Centre at Llangrannog for years 7 and 8, and a new trip is planned in July for Years 9 and 10 to Manor Adventures.  All trips encourage students to use and practise their Welsh language skills as well as supporting and celebrating Welsh Culture. Mrs Cruickshank holds a catch up session every Thursday after school for any students who need extra support, help or simply want to practise heir language skills and all are invited.
