Executive Headteacher’s Welcome
Welcome to Coleg Cymunedol Y Ddderwen and I hope you find this website useful in finding out more about our school.
Coleg Cymunedol Y Ddderwen has a very distinctive ethos built on strong positive relationships and the desire to help students develop a love of learning and become curious and happy learners with high self-esteem. Helping students develop into confident, sensitive and reflective adults is a key priority at Coleg Cymunedol Y Ddderwen. This is achieved through high quality teaching and careful support for all students throughout their time in school. We regard students as individuals, all different but all equal, with varying strengths and interests. We are proud of the academic and extra-curricular successes our students achieve and are determined to help students fulfil their potential while making the most of the wealth of opportunities on offer at the school.
We work closely in partnership with parents and believe this relationship is crucial to the success of our students. Strong collaboration with our wider school community enables our students to thrive and strive for success.
Our most recent examination results demonstrate rapidly improving standards at all key stages. In 2016, results at key stage 3, 4 and 5 were the best in the history the school (and the previous two schools prior to amalgamation). At key stage 4 for example, pupil achievement compares extremely favourably with other schools and performance was in the top 25% of schools in Wales for ‘value added’ from the end of key stage 2 to the completion of key stage 4.
We are a large school which brings many benefits, such as a broad curriculum allowing students to choose from the widest selection of subjects and also we can offer a huge array of extra-curricular opportunities. However, very importantly, we manage to maintain a small school community atmosphere where students feel valued and supported from the moment they join us to the day they leave.
The future at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen is extremely bright and should you choose to join us on our journey, then you will not be disappointed. If you want to find out more or would like to visit the school please do not hesitate to contact us. Out students take great pride in showing visitors around our school. Thank you for spending time visiting our website.
