KS5 / Year 12/13 / 6th Form Curriculum

Post 16 Options

We have reached the time of the year when students in year 11 will be thinking about what they are going to do at the end of this academic year. Some will already have plans such as going to the college on a full time course, taking up an apprenticeship or going directly into employment. For many the choice will be returning to school to continue with their studies here.

Whatever plans may have already been decided upon, the most important thing is that individuals are aware of all the options that are open to them, whether they be back in school or elsewhere.

Therefore, over the next few weeks we will be working with year 11 to make them aware of the choices that are available to them, in whatever area they choose to proceed, so that whatever their final destination may be next year, it will be based on having all of the information and facts that they should be aware of.

For those who are planning to return to the 6th form in school, we will be asking them to make some initial choices in order to help inform our planning for September. We recognise fully however, that pupils will change their minds between now and then and of course final decisions will be based heavily on GCSE exams results in the summer.

You will find a copy of the Post 16 Option Booklet on this webpage for you to download. The booklet provides information on courses in school and in other centres as well as other opportunities that are available and agencies that can provide advice and guidance. Please take the time to read through this booklet carefully and please ask any questions that might arise. The important thing is that you are clear about all the opportunities available to you, and
with this in mind you are invited to attend a Careers Fair at the school (You will be notified of the dates ).  This will give pupils and parents the chance to speak to subject teachers as well as Careers Wales advisers, Bridgend College and Welsh University representatives, all of who will be able to answer questions and give relevant advice and guidance.

Finally, I would just like to add, that once we have been through this process over the next few weeks, the important thing is that you forget about September for now and focus all of your attention and effort on achieving as good a set of exam results as you are capable of. Success this summer is the key to further opportunities.

Best of Luck
